Any new devices coming up from Pinnacle, Canopus, Hauppauge etc.? Are the companies waiting for Windows Vista release or why it's been so slow on capturing device market?

  2. This area seems to have slowed down, just like dedicated 35mm scanners. Either it's a very niche market or everyone lost interest in converting their analog stuff to digital. Canopus never supported their ADVC products anyway. Never did they upgrade the Picture Controller software. It is very rude for a company to bring out a product and then not support it. They have terrible customer service. I never got a response back to nearly a dozen emails.

I just checked the ADSTECH web site, and don't see any Vista drivers there yet, but I would bet that they will appear as soon as Vista gets more exposure.

I emailed to Canopus, ADS Tech, Pinnacle and Hauppauge and asked if they have any new devices coming up. Let's see if anything happens.

Hauppauge has some new cards coming up which use the new Conexant CX23418 processor.

The new encoder includes several features to ensure high-fidelity audio and
superior video. Special capabilities include the ability to cleanly process and
convert low-quality video from old VCR tapes and similar sources to digital
formats such as DVDs. This revolutionary new feature enables consumers to
make the best possible copy of content from bad or unstable video sources.
The question is ofcourse if Hauppauge will be able to use all those nice features in their product.

    Morning all.

Well, most of what I've seen in the last two years (mainly this year)
is specific support for only Windows 2000 and XP, though their were
more XP-related/ready devices on the store shelves.. ie, Circuit City
has mainly capture devices with drivers for XP, minimum OS requirement.

I still have some capture devices that are brand spanking new, but I
can't use them because their minimum OS requirement is WIN98se on up.

Off the top of my head, here are a some I have but never used:

Hauppauge Win-TV PVR USB2; Pinnacle Studio AV/DV; ADS VideoXpress

And, I'm still running WIN98 gold (first edition) you know.

    Reply from Canopus:

"Since there are no new techniques or technologies being developed for
analog to digital transfer, there are currently no new products. When
new products are announced, and if you're on our e-mailing list, you'll
receive news of the release. "

I doubt any of the major manufacturers are going to pursue analog-it is disappearing, and probably withing the next 2-3 years will be gone. Everything, including traditional analog 4:3 TV is rapidly disappearing off retailer's shelves and going digital and Hi-Def. Just my opinion. Cheers
