    Tim,

I had exactly the same problem with 3412 box. With my new 3416 box I don't have that any more. The only problem sometimes I have is blank(black) video and no sound.

    Thanks!

That's what I do and it fixes the problem. I guess we will have to live with that.

    I'm just using a 6' cable, 6 to 4 pin.

HOWEVER - I might have gotten too excited too soon. My sound is all jacked up. When I play the .ts in Videolan it just garbles and stops playing. When I try to convert using HDTV2MPEG I get a 1.4 gig file turned into a 1.2 MEG file.

    Whatever!

I use Media Player Classic 6.4.9. Works great playing HD .TS files. Videolan didn't work good for me. Try MPC.

Thanks. But MPC locks up. I will try a new capture.

What do you do with the .ts file? convert it? burn it?

I use Womble's Mpeg Video Wizard to open the .ts file, edit it as desired, and save as .mpg. It solves all kinds of playing issues.

Hmmm. Maybe it's such a temperamental thing that I was getting lucky with my 3412 and you are getting lucky with your 3416. I've already brought a couple of these back - I wonder if I should just keep bringing them back until I get one that doesn't have the problem anymore?

I just can't live with having to reboot each time I want to "fix" my 3416. I often take very short captures of usually no more than 5 to 10 seconds at a time and sometimes a dozen times in a single show (such as from a 4-hr football game). I've got to find a better solution than cold booting even if it means going back to 3412s, which seem to work perfectly when mated with my 40k.

Another thing that's puzzling is that the 40k has even lost the signal from the 3416 several times even when it's the only connected firewire device. I never once saw that happen with the 3412, so I'm pretty sure something's not quite the same.

MPC locks up when TS file has errors. If TS file is good MPC is the best player. I tried many different media players, and MPC is the best, at least for me.

This is what I do with TS file:

    1. If recorded video doesn't have commercials at the end I run it through MPEG2Repair. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=MPEG2Repair

    2. If recorded video has commercials at the end of the video i run it through HDTVtoMPEG2 to cut commercials and create new TS file. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=HDTVtoMPEG2
Then I run it through MPEG2Repair. Most of the time MPEG2Repair fixes the problem if there are any.
I don't use Womble's Mpeg Video Wizard because it produces incorrect TS file.

    3. Then I keep some videos on my HTPC.

    4. Then I archive TS files. I use TSSplitter to split TS file and then burn it to 2 or 3 DVD+RW disks. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=TSSplitter

    I have WMC 2005
I installed timmmoore drivers for my motorola stb.
I disabled the "unknown" device {as per some instructions} and have both devices as "imaging devices":
    motorola av/c panel device (dct-3412) &
    motorola tuner av/c device (dct-3412)
    --------
when I plug in the firewire cable WMC starts windows movie maker and when its supposedly going to start recording I get a message that says .... insert tape...

I also tried winDV, selected the "motorola av/c tuner device" and when I click "capture" and I get a "error: can't find dv output pin" message.

    --------
anyone have suggestions? my stb is actually a dct-3416-I but supposedly the 3412 should be compatible...

    Thanks for your help...

Though I had to uninstall the other drivers I was tring...

When you start fresh and follow the instructions on this page... you should be able to get your stream from a dct3416 without a prob...

Ok so today I tried to capture from my Comcast motorola 3412 DVR. I have used this DCT64xx Firewire capture and HD/SD to DVD guide but My computer never finds the new hardware? I have the dvr on. The Firewire plugged into the port closest to the power cable and the firewire cable plugged into a working firewire port on my pc. Any ideas why I cant' see the DVR?
