    ah so the stuff can be different at any time. Just curious if anyone media codes on them.

    There's more to it than just the media codes. When many of the media manufacturers have a bad batch of media, they downgrade it and sell it as such. This is the stuff that often winds up as store brand media in places like Office Depot, Office Max, Staples etc. When Sony for example buys media (they don't manufacture their own media) they impose a higher quality standard on the manufacturer than the slime merchants do. So to put your trust in a media code alone can sometimes give you an unhappy surprise.

    Sony used to be synonymous with hight quality. but not anymore... Look at all the troubles with exploding batteries and rootkit stuff in their CD's .

    No idea about the DL media, but their regular -R that I've ran into are FUJIFILM03, which happens to be a relatively generic ID used by quite a few manufacturers.
