What can one do when audio is not synchronised with video, the process is as follows:

    1.file-->.avi
2.resizing to PAL format with AviScript 2.9, only video output and basic options checked for resizing
3.inserting .avs script into CCE SP2
4.checking the box sync with video
5.using ffmpeggui to convert CCE .wav output file into .AC3 format.
6.using Ulead DVD Workshop, inserting video .mpv file and audio .AC3 file

What should I be looking at to solve this problem?

This is a common problem when converting from avi

Ensure the original file is not corrupt of missing frames.

I am certain that non of the video files are corrupt, I already converted 3 video files using this process and they are all out of sync, and when I used avi2dvd program every dvd turned out OK from the very same .avi files.

I recently posted a similar problem with DVDWS. Although I've used the program for awhile with no problems, video suddenly went out of sync. Just trying another encoder, CCE, solved the problem. I'm usually not in a rush but CCE is so much faster and the mpeg output quality at least matches DVDWS, IMHO.

Why is this in Newbie Conversion, and if it's so newbie how come there is no advice?

  8. Hi-

Don't allow CCE to touch the audio. Extract it properly from the AVI, and convert it separately.

Then, if the problem persists, post the .avs and detail exactly how you handled the audio.

There are simply too many causes to audio sync problems to answer your question.
One problem is when the audio and video has different starting points in the AVI "envelope" and are somewhere in the process separated from eachother to later be stitched togehther again. The offset is lost, and the audio will (constantly) be off with respect to the video.
Another problem point is vbr audio in the AVI. Most encoders simply have a real hard time dealing with that.
A third problem is when you (or the application you use) improperly makes a frame rate conversion.
The easy solution is to get a DivX/XviD capable DVD player, and stop converting these pesky files that were not meant to be reencoded anyway.
If that's not an option, get convertx2dvd, which seeems like the most reliable oneclickwonder app for AVI to DVD conversion out there.

You were correct, I used ffmpeggui to extract .AC3 from .avi file and then put it in DWS along with .mpv from CCE, and it is in sync now.

But since a lot of people are saying that ConvertXToDVD produces better quality and doesn't have sync problem I'm not going to use CCE again, weird that supposedly professional encoder is not as good as a program that costs like 50 times less.
I thought that after all those encoders I used I would finally settle with CCE.

Many people, including me, believe CCE to be the best commonly available software MPEG-2 encoder. All I said was to not do the audio through CCE. I didn't recommend not using it at all.

An avreage of 8.7 (out of 10) is about how good it gets, specially for a tool geared for noobs (who often stumble on their own feet, and blame it on the application)
