I want to copy some home videos onto my computer using my ati aiw radeon 8500 card but it isn't working. On a fresh install of windows, I installed; DirectX 9.0c, .net framework 1.1, ATI's Catalyst Software Suite 6.11 for my video card, and the ATI Multimedia Software 9.02. But in the configuration it doesn't give me any options for the video capture device, and when I try to run the test it crashes, also I get about 6 unknown devices on the radeon card. It seem like, from what I've seen other people talk about, that I don't have the wdm drivers installed, but they come with the Catalyst Software Suite. does anyone know why this is happening?

ATI products (drivers) have always been hard to install/setup. I would suggest removing the software and drivers, then try again. You also need to reboot at least once between each step to ensure all drivers and hardware are properly recognized and setup.

The Radeon 8500 that I had supported DirectX8, did not support
DirectX9.............thats all I got........ -
I had mmc 9.02 working fine with an 8500DV and XP SP2 (with DirectX9). That shouldn't be the problem.
I say "had" because it has stopped working after a few months of OK operation. Time to uninstall and reinstall. ATI drivers often need repeated attempts ... take 1, take2, ...take 7
I hope AMD fixes the problems at ATI. They need a swift kick. That is one company that needed acquisition. -
These should help get you started.

I suppose I should have my lawyer review my words before I post them.
The Radeon 8500 supports DirectX 8.1.
It will run under DirectX9.0 and later but those features will be ignored. -
