I am looking for a USB soundcard for my laptop.

I need it to have optical out to connect to my receiver.

I'd also need it to be able to output in 5.1 surround (for games and DVDs and such).

I'm no audiophile so I'd like it to be inexpensive, whats important to me is true 5.1 surround sound output.

Anyone know of a card like this they can recommend?

    Thanks -Justin

I am kinda worried about getting true 5.1 surround through the optical. I had a optical card on another system that was a big let down. I don't know how all of this works so I'd like to get some advice from people with experience with a product

    Here is what I have:

I like it a lot. I usually have a logitech 5.1 analog surround speaker setting hooked up and it sounds great.

I have used the optical out to record to a cd recorder and it works just fine. I haven't used the optical out for home surround with my sony amplifier however so I can't vouch for it in that sense.

But the external does an excellent job. I only have 3pci slots and they are all full. Thats why I bought this a few years ago when I got my emachine - I still wanted 5.1 audio but didn't have the pci slot for it.
