I suspect there are none of the second envelopes mentioned in the Subject. I've just been playing with the rudiments of track audio envelopes, creating the envelope and manipulating it. My question is why can't this (envelopes) be done on an event basis? It's easy to see how the track envelope can be bent to accommodate an event, but why even use that approach? Does this somehow relate to a fundamental philosophy or methodology of video/film editing? Well, maybe one can do it for a track, but I missed how.

Most event editing would be done in a separate program (e.g. sound forge) with the real time event fx being enough for a small tweak here and there. The major stuff - pans, levels mixing etc is then done at the track level. It's all about preparation.

Well, I just got a copy of Sound Forge this weekend, so I guess I'm going to find out about preparation sooner rather than later.

As I now recall, there is something of a primitive sound control facility available at the event level. There's a horizontal bar that can be moved from 0Db to -Db. I'm not sure why +Db isn't allowed. There are no key points to contour the sound.

It is a simple gain control to lower an entire event. Similar to the opacity control on video events.
