    Hi guys!

I´m having problems finding a recorder that can record in a Mpeg-4 format. Can anyone tell me if there is a good recorder that also as a HD and maybe HDMI or DVI? I found one from Archos but it is a portable player and they ask more for that.

    thanks Baldrick,

the post as helped. an off post questio... do you think that a good mpeg4 recorder wouldnt be better than just having mpeg2? I´m making the assumption that mpeg4 can have the same quality using less disk.

    cheers

Lg RH-200MHS records in MPEG4 according to specifications. Here is the user's manual:
    http://de.lgservice.com/gcsc/b2c/hpi/main?tc=owm.command.OwmCmd

What I don't like about this recorder is its limited ability to copy stuff to and from hdd. See page 6 of the manual. Why Liteon can copy everything everywhere and LG cannot??

Hi witekc, for what I could understand of the link, it appears as a nice recorder. But, unfortunately I dont understand german, and LG dont show this model anywhere else, but at least this model was sold were in Portugal. But LG has others models with MPEG4, and it appears that in some models you dont have the editing feature. Can you edit xvid videos on Lg RH-200MHS?

    Cheers

I see the link I provided is no longer working. But you can always go here: http://de.lgservice.com/ and switch the labguage to English (on the left). There you will find an English manual.
As to your question I doubt it can edit DivX movies. But I'm not sure. See inthe manual for yourself.

Lg RH-200MHS has a Divx video on demand feature, and for that reason they dont allow moving divx files from HDD. that just kills the player. I can record the shows but I cant save them. It´s like having a car, but you cant ride in the same road twice

Super Multi-Format Recording and Playback—Record and Play Almost Anything
Incredibly versatile and format friendly, this DVD recorder can record to and play back just about any DVD you can throw at it. Specifically, it can record to and play back DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs. It can also play back many more disc formats, including: DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R(dual layer), DVD+R(dual layer), CD, CD-DA, and CD-R/RW(including MP3, JPEG, and DivX files). With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need.

    Record with Twice the Resolution
This DVD recorder can record an amazing 500 lines of horizontal resolution in LP Mode, which is twice the 250 lines of resolution offered by conventional LP Mode recording. What does this mean? It means that you can fit up to 4-hours of recordings on one DVD (4.7GB capacity) and still enjoy the crisp, vibrant images with exceptional detail that 500 lines of horizontal resolution deliver.

High Definition (1080i/720p) Up-Conversion with HDMI—Upgrade Your DVDs
When connected to an HDMI-compatible TV via an HDMI cable, this DVD recorder can up-convert the DVD content that you?re watching to 720p or 1080i resolution (depending on your TV?s display capability) so you can enjoy beautiful, high-quality imagery in near high definition.

Hi lacywest, from the manual it appears that Panasonic DMR-EH75VS can play but cant record in Mpeg-4 DivX format. The DMR-E500HS have simultaneous Mpeg-4 recording. Althought only in 4:3, but it appears that editing is possible. Recording in Mpeg-4 doenst appear to have commercial value, because even the models with this feature arent promoted for that. Maybe I´m being exquisite...

  13. Recording in mpeg4 is fraught with dangers (which Mpeg4?? xvid divx nero quicktime??) and editing mpeg4 is even more problematic. Hell.. mpeg2 editing is only just down pat with most recorders. Mpeg4 editing requires far more cpu, memory resources than mpeg2, thusly a much more expensive chipset combo.
You are exquisite my darling :P

If I´m looking to pay less for a recorder I would say that free Xvid is the choice. But I dont know what is the better Mpeg-4. Mpeg-4 editing in PC is easy but I really dont know if you need more CPU and memory than to edit Mpeg-2. What I do know, is that you can achieve better quality for the same time with the same HDD using Mpeg-4. And you also can backup and share more easily. Everyone that has a PC uses Mpeg-4 so why not using in a recorder or players? They want to sell us what they want, but I want to buy what I want. In that way is good to be exquisite
