  1. I just downloaded the "trial" version of Visualhub - limited to 2 minute segments.

VERY ROUGHLY, how long does it take to convert an avi (usually xvid type) file of about 350 gb to burn as a video dvd, readable by a stand alone dvd player? "Divx Converter" takes a VERY long time - from 6-24 hours. How about Visualhub?

    I use a Mac G3 900 mHz, 640 RAM.

    Thanks!! : javascript:emoticon('')

Seems slow, but then it is a pretty old Mac.

By comparison, my system can do it in better than real time using ConvertXtoDVD (which is ffmpeg based), or better than real-time per pass for a multi-pass CCE encoding.

In short - you are hardware bound, and one piece of software will only be incrementally better that another on your system.

I think guns1inger is right, but since this is a Mac specific question, I'll move you to our Mac Forum where you may get some more answers.

    And welcome to our forums.

  4. Thanks for the reply! I forgot to say that I'm using an external dvd burner (MCE - Pioneer actually), firewire 400 connection.

Is that really 350 GIGAbytes? Or MEGAbytes?

My 800MHz G3 iBook can transcode XviD into MPEG-1 at about one-fourth or one-fifth speed. Conversion into DVD will be somewhat slower, but not by a huge amount. So, a one-hour movie takes about 5-6 hours. If you're seeing speeds that are much slower than that, you can probably do better. If not, it's working about as well as your hardware will allow.

  8. Thanks for the reply! That's abut what I've experienced with Divx Decoder too.
