300G (320G) Maxtor Basic HD SATA via SATA Card
    WinXP Pro SP2
    Compaq 6450NX Motherboard
upgrade an e-GeForce (NVIDIA) 256MB/DDR2 video card by EVGA via AGP 8X slot (not PCI).

Windows cannot detect this hardware. When start Windows keep reboot after reboot, whether I selected safe mode, safe mode with prompt, start Windows normally etc. it keeps on rebooting. I also disabled the intergrated Video on the board still no avail. Remove this AGP card PC will starts Windows OK. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

There is alot of GeForce Video Cards out there ... do you know what model it is ??

Could it be sucking too much power from the power supply ?

Does it use separate power connections to the power supply ??

Unfortunately, that sounds like a defective video card. Have you made sure it's properly seated in the AGP socket? And I assume that 8X card is compatible with your motherboard? (Though it should be.)

Clearing the BIOS may help (then disable onboard video again) or locating a motherboard BIOS flash upgrade.

I think BJS is probably right....a 200 watt p/s with any modern video card especially ones that have a power connector is weak.

and it works! Thanks all for your inputs!
