I noticed a post by a guy named Tarvish, he asked

    Hey guys,

Im wanting to record footage from my xbox 360 onto my pc. It uses a 720p signal via component cables. What card can I use to capture my HD signal in 720p on my pc? Any ideas?

I'm with Tavish and would like to record video footage at the highest quality possible. Any suggestions yet? I've seen component capture cards but they are like $900. Kind of pricey. Anything lower priced? Maybe around 200 to 400 buckaroos?

The AJA Xena LH or Xena LHe

The difference is that the LH is a PCI/PCI-X compatible card whereas the LHe is a PCIe type card.

Either way you won't like the price.

Here is a link to the AJA Xena LH ---> CLICK HERE

Cheaper solutions? You find one you let me know

    P.S.
Actually one of the JVC D-VHS VCR units may work for this. That would be nearly 1/3 of the price of an AJA Xena not to mention no computer overhead. Take a look at the JVC HM-DH5U and don't let the MSRP scare you as the street price is less than half of the MSRP. In fact here is a link for you ... CLICK HERE

    *** EDIT ***
Scrap that ... the JVC doesn't offer COMPONENT input.

That was an interesting PCI-e card FulciLives... I've seen some cheaper Component cards, slightly cheaper in price, but still a tad to much ($999). Anyway thanks for the links. Also that HD VCR recorder was quite interesting (though I have no interest buying it).

If I wasn't broke all the time I'd definitely buy the JVC D-VHS as it seems to be the cheapest way to record and archive HDTV ... at least for the time being.

Afraid it won't work with the XboX 360 though.

I just came across this capture card:

    http://www.shop4tech.com/?go=view_item&id=5101&r=183

Does anyone know if it does HiDef capturing through component? It only has a $150 price tag on it.

No component input on the DVIco card. Appears to record off an HD tuner module and have the usual suspects of composite and "S" video in.

Component input is availabl wit: http://www.videoguys.com/pyroAVlink.html although it's 480i.

I've seen a few posts on various forums where people are looking for ways to capture their Game Console's HD gameplay.

You might look into the possibility of:

    1) BlackMagic Intensity HDMI PCIexpress capture card
    2) Gefen Component with Audio to HDMI converter
    3) 3+ hard-drives in a raid-0 setup capable of 119+MB/s as required for capturing

If it were me (because I have a couple real nice HDTVs), I'd just buy an HD camcorder and optimize a setup for recording the gameplay.

Do some searching around the web and you should be able to work out some solution together with some of these other guys looking to do the same thing.

Let us know what you end up doing and how it works.
