Hello !!!
I have WinXP Home SP2 and never had this problem until just recently.
When I go into my CONTROL PANEL and double click on the SYSTEM icon and then try to click on the DEVICE MANAGER button I get the following error:
Anyone know what the hell that means and how to "fix it" etc.?
Please Note that I get this error message and that that is that ... I cannot get "into" the DEVICE MANAGER.

Well, that title, 'devmgmt.msc' is your Device Manager itself. Have you looked in your System 32 folder to see if it's there? Mine seems to be about 33K and is a 'Microsoft Common Console Document'. It has a 'modified' date of 8/4/04, so that tells me it is part of the original OS disc.
aedipuss's link looks promising, though. -
I'm gonna try that link out.
Unfortunately I have managed to mis-place my back-up CD-ROM discs that came with the computer. I wonder ... does Microsoft replace WinXP discs for a small fee?
