Hi, I have searched on this site for the DVD-R's I got this Black Friday, but only found reviews on 2 of them, both mixed. So could anyone tell me if they have had any experiences with these dvd-rs. Or would it be better to just return them all and get a really good brand? I'd like them to last as long as possible. Thanks

Playo should be Made in China and are usefull for temporary/testing purposes.
In fact most of your bargains if examined are probably Made in Taiwan. You do get what you pay for.
I use the HP 8X for stuff I'll watch one time and then don't care about. IE Timeshifting via my DVD recorder where I'm running out of drive space on it and want to watch sooner or later but need teh drive space back.
If you want them to last as long as possible then Look for Made in Japan or Verbatim. I usually spend about 30 cents per disc bought on sale at places like Staples ot Best Buy.
Those discs were cheap? I'd hang onto some of them just to use for test burns on authored DVDs to see if they look like you wanted. -

Both are no-name brands, probably made in China or by shops in Taiwan using spare capacity, mostly considered third-rate or junk.
In fact, regard any non-name-brand media that way, as well as any store-brand such as Office Depot, Staples, etc. Unless you are lucky enough to get FUJIFILM03, in which case it's average.

All three don't actually manufacture their own stuff, but outsource them to manufacturers in Taiwan or somewhere in Asia. Quality depends on who made it. In general, the Taiwan stuff are decent. The India stuff are not too bad. Everything else... be weary.
As others have said, made in Japan is best, and nowadays only Verbatim (who seems to have the highest QC standards) and occasionally Sony media are still made in MIJ, for store bought media. You can mail order Taiyo-Yuden media, which is generally considered the best all-around media maker. -
yeah those are all on the cheap side. i've had better luck with the hp's and tdk's... memorex is crap

if the TDKs are TTH02's from CompUSA or Circuit City,
you can read my reviews and take them for gold.
TDK's at Compusa are crap IMHO...
out of a 50 disc spindle, I usually experience medium errors
of about 20%(10 discs bad).
Running latest firmware.
Cirucit City used to carry MIJ TDKs, now they carry mostly
MIT on all major brands (Maxell, Sony, and TDK).
Their TDKs should be TTG02, and if so, will vary in
quality..last spindle I bought and burned (10-03-06)
I got a ratio of about 10% (5 discs bad).
Compare this to TTG02 TDKs MIT from Target,
(Branded Blue TDK Video Discs), at a ratio of 0%
(none bad), and yes you pay more, but you get
better results.
HP I find cheap all over, especially at Big Lots for
15pk spindle for $9.99. I wouldn't trust them for
more than testing.
Better deal...get your self a Sam's membership.
They sell Verbatim 8x media in 50 pks all day
for $14.99. No sales, no waits, and quality media.
That alone is worth the $20 a year in membership.

i used to buy inexpensive (cheap) media because i archive old movies that i recorded from cable. Soon these movies won't be shown anymore. the point is that i purchased 200 onidtech discs and they truned out to be crap, like some of my machines cannot read them, burners that do not recognize them and for any kind of recording i can only use half the space if i want to get any kind of reliability. the valuable movies are ruined. it is wiser to invest in media known to be reliable. you take a chance recording valuable information onto cheap media. as a previous post said, 30 cents will get u quality discs at online stores and even local stores if you take the time to look. believe me i have learned my lesson.
