  1. So what's the max size svcd file I can get on a 80 CDR without overburning?

I would assume 702 MB (sans the 1.4 meg for the file system). But I notice the bitrate calulators suggest something closer to 750 MB. PVAStrumento even cuts selected mpegs into 792 MB files calling them (80min CD-R SVCD format).

How can this be? How could I get 792 MB on a 702 MB disc?

  3. Assuming only one video track with minimal overhead, you should be able to get about 795 MB on one 80min/700MB disc on a SVCD.

This apparent overcapacity is because the video track on S/VCDs is written in MODE2 Form2 sectors. In this, you get 2324 bytes per sector of user data.

In ordinary CD-ROMs (which is where the 700MB capacity figure comes from), you only have 2048 bytes per sector.

There are 360,000 sectors on an 80min CD so if you do the multiplication, you can work out the capacities.

There will be some overhead on the SVCD but if it is minimal (e.g., one track only, no menus) then it should be no more than 15-20 seconds.

    Regards.
