    Hi all,

I'm new here, but not new to PC's. Anyway, I have a Mpeg file of my friends band that was recorded last night.

I'm trying to find a way that I can scan through the file and actually create individual clips. Such as if I was making individual music videos from it. I would choose a starting point and an ednind point, then save that as 1 file, then do the same for another file, etc.

I've tried a few programs, but so far I've not had much luck.

    What can I use? Anything?

Thanks in advance for any help.

For that you need a MPEG editor. Some popular ones are VideoReDo and MPEG-VCR. MPEG Video Wizard, mentioned by Epicurus8a is a little more advanced editor. There are also some freeware ones available to the left in 'Tools'. <<<<<< Encoders like TMPEGnc can do some very basic editing, also TMPEGnc DVD Author.

If you plan to do this often, a standalone editor would be a good investment. If you just want, quick and fairly easy to use, try Windows Movie Maker. It won't output in MPEG, though, so you would have to re-encode.

There are also some package programs from Ulead and others that come free with some capture cards or similar that may work, or they can be purchased cheaply.

Most any good editor has a learning curve. But they should all be able to cut out and save clips. You didn't mention what final format you wanted for the clips, so I assumed MPEG.

    And welcome to our forums.

Don't waste your time on MPEG tools inside the old TMPGEncPlus, you'll get many bugs (like audio out of sync etc.) without using some tricks, especially with VBR MPEG2. TMPG MPEG Editor, VideoReDo and MPEG Video Wizard are the right tools for cut/join editing.

Thanks for all the replies and help so far.

I have tried using, VideoRedo, but I think that the only way that is going to work for me, is if I just create and save 1 clip at a time, Then close and re-open the file and create another clip, etc.

I've also tried windows movie maker, that does not work for me either, nor does Nero vision.
