i have some movies that will play only with VLC media player but i want to encode them to vcd so i can burn them to disc i have used TMPGEnc but they still turn out messy what programe can i use

VLC is a great player because it brings it's own codecs with it for decoding video. This means it can play most videos, even if you don't have the right codecs installed on your system. However, other programs cannot use VLC codecs, and so require that you have the right codecs in place.
Open the files you are trying to convert using avicodec or g-spot 2.6x and look at what codecs they require. Install just those codecs (no codec packs - shortcuts lead to misery), then try again. If they play, but badly, it may just be time to update some of the codecs you already have. If you have already installed codec packs in the past, you may have found the cause of your problems.Read my blog here.
