  1. Help & Sorry!
I’ve been searching on here for quite a while before posting, but can’t quite seem to locate what I seek.
I have a 13 minute 400MB DVD I’m trying to convert. I’m trying to convert it to as small a file as possible for access and viewing over the internet. It’s been suggested that MOV or AVI would be the most widely accessible format. That said, I’m having trouble find the right tool (or as few a tools as possible) to convert this over and down to about a 20, 30 or 40MB file in such a format. I just found Cucusoft and it looks like the best candidate thus far. Just thought I would poll some of the experts before I went out & bought a full copy of a sub-par toll(s).
Any advice, guidance and or suggestions for this novice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and best regards to all – Dave.

No need for commercial tools. (Besides, CuCuSoft and other one click solutions are generally crap, and give very little control over end result if they work at all.)
Make mpg out of vob with vob2mpg, encode mpg to either DivX AVI with AutoGK, or wmv with Windows Movie Maker. DivX is supported by most platforms, but requires the user to have the codec installed. wmv is included in all Windows boxes.
Only universally accepted codec is mpg1, but for decent results, you'd have to go about 10 MB/minute.
AVI as such says nothing, as an AVI can contain audio and video in more different shapes and combinations than you can count. This makes it a bad candidate for on line web viewing.
MOV would require the install of Quicktime on the client.
