I recently burned several AVI video's to DVD using WinDVD Creator 1 and while viewable the quality is considerably worse then before the burn. I'm guessing I need to convert the AVI's into a different format but I don't know which one would work on standard DVD players and what programs can do the job.

    Info:

My DVD players only play standard DVD's.

    I am using DVD-RW's.

I've used the program to create DVD backups without issue.

You need to use a dedicated MPEG-2 DVD spec encoder as opposed to a "all-in-one" program because such "all-in-one" programs tend to perform poorly.

1.) What format are your AVI files? In order to help me out in helping you out do this: load the AVI into a program called GSpot and take a screen grab of the results and post it here. If you need help on how to take and post a screen grab then read this link: CLICK HERE

2.) I can tell you right now that you will need to download and install the following programs ... all of which are freeware (as is GSpot):

    1.) HCenc
    2.) AviSynth
    3.) VirtualDubMod
4.) Audacity (although I prefer GoldWave although GoldWave is not freeware it is trailware)
    5.) ffmpeggui

Get back with that GSpot screen grab and I'll go into more detail then.
