Just bought a 200gb Maxtor at Staples for 19.99 after erebate.
-
Thats a good deal! I'd love to find a 200GB HDD for $60 or less. I considered forking over $60 for a 160GB not to long ago....

I just swap them into a USB2 hard drive enclosure. -

My $19.99 (AR) Staples Maxtor "200GB" drives show as 189GB under XP. Does that mean I got cheated?
If and when a drive fails without a recovery path, then I will feel cheated. Fix that problem Maxtor.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I bought that 200GB HD from Staples, too.
That was a one day sale this past Black Friday until 10am.
While the store ad (Staples) indicated 1 rebate (purchase price was $69.00+tax, with $50 MIR) the register paper output clearly indicated a max of 3 for one address/family.
I don't care, was a good enough deal for just one that I need anyway.Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -
Maxtor's seem to be on sale everywhere. Maybe because they're trying to get rid of stock since Seagate bought out Maxtor and there won't be any more drives under the Maxtor name once stock is gone.
Anyway, I ordered this 320GB external drive from Staples. People are saying it's a WD SATA inside and the enclosure is a nice aluminum one with a cooling fan. Just that you have to wait 2 months for the $50 rebate. But still, $80 for a 320GB SATA drive with an aluminum USB2/FW enclosure is still a good deal.

One size is metric one size is binary. Same though. -
I tried getting two of them [Maxtor 300GB PATA] ... but when I checked up on the status of my order they told me a error occured when using my ATM card info.
So I missed out ... I went to CompUSA on Sunday and bought two of those Lite-On DVD burners for $30 bucks each. Since the money was available in my checking account.
Then I went back to Frys and tried ordering one of those Maxtor 160GB harddrives for $54.99.
Today moments ago ... I got an Email saying .....Thanks for shopping at Frys.com. We are pleased to tell you that we shipped the items listed below. We suggest you save this e-mail in case you have any questions about your order.
The two Maxtor 300GB PATA HDs ... I tried to order last week ... Nov 24th ... that FRYS said an error occured and the transaction didn't go through.
They arrived around 2PM ... at my door ... Monday afternoon.
And yes ... they do have an extra 20 GB ... Total ... 320 GB
I then took off really quick to my bank to transfer more funds into that ATM account.
20 minutes have passed.
I went to my bank online and checked my status ... no over draft charges and it does show FRYS got their money of $128.68 [thats the price for two of those 300 GB PATA Drives] ... I did get dinged for State Tax.
I also went to FRYS online and checked my ordering status for everything I've done with them ... it isn't listed ... 4 items should be listed but only 3 items are listed. One of them is the Seagate 300GB harddrive that they had on sale ... months ago. But these two Maxtor 320 GB harddrives ... are not listed as being ordered and sent out.
I did get a packing list invoice with the two harddrives in the box.
Okay ... I went to Frys and used the order number on the invoice and this is the info provided.

lol nice. man i wish i would have picked up one or two but i dumped my available funds the sunday before on a wii and accessories for my nephews xmas . can never have enough storage imo
-
Yup, Fry's has to charge California sales tax because they have brick and mortar here as do most retailers sadly. Almost all of my Newegg purchases get the California tax applied.
