I have that DVD player and I have no problems with VCD or SVCD.
What your problem seems to be is you are not creating a VCD compliant MPEG. You need 25fps, 352x288 resolution. Choose VideoCD(pal) template from tmpgenc. I also use Nero to burn which always seems to work for me. The JNL doesn't like non-compliant VCDs.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!
