  1. I'm using what I think is the latest version of Gspot, 2.60RC01. With Export set up to append to a fixed text file, I'm seeing incorrect Durations in that text for some of my files. (Bit rates and frame rates too, but that's to be expected.)

I've tested 6 MPGs and 2 were exactly right but 4 were grossly wrong.

Haven't yet tried reverting back to an earlier version to compare.

    Anyone else please?

  2. In further tests I found discrepancies in about 75% of the MPG files I tried. A few got me wondering if there might be some sort of transposition issue. For example, the file Silves2.mpg was shown in GSpot as having a 'Len' of 23.160, as seen here
    http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Images/GspotExportError1.jpg

But its exported version reports 21.360, as seen from this pasted extract:

    --- File Information ---
    File Name: Silves2.mpg
    File Size (in bytes): 16,558,080

    --- Container Information ---
Base Type (e.g "AVI"): MPEG (.MPG/.MPEG/.VOB)
    Subtype (e.g "OpenDML"):
    Interleave (in ms):
    Preload (in ms):
    Audio alignment("split across interleaves"):
    Total System Bitrate (kbps): 10080
    Bytes Missing (if any):
    Number of Audio Streams: 1

    --- Video Information ---
    Video Codec Type(e.g. "DIV3"): MPEG2
    Video Codec Name(e.g. "DivX 3, Low-Motion"): MPEG-2
Video Codec Status(e.g. "Codec Is Installed"): Codec(s) are Installed
    Duration (hh:mms): 0:21.360
    Frame Count: 14877168
    etc

I also emailed the author and if/when I hear back I'll report any conclusions.

BTW, it seems 'Duration' is not as hard a fact as say size in bytes. VirtualDubMod reported slightly different values to GSpot in most cases I tried. But the issue raised here is of course about the inconsistency within GSpot, not its accuracy compared to other MPG-reading software.

  3. To close this thread off: Steven Greenberg, the author of GSpot,
emailed me to confirm he has isolated this bug and hopes to issue a
new release fixing it within the week.
