So i just started editing counter strike films not long ago and i ran into a little problem as i changed the default vegas resolution from whatever it was down to 640x512. i start editing and im all happy. the lil preview screen is showing everything i want to see but when i render the movie, it turns out a bit wider than it is supposed to be. now this usualy would not be a problem but i am using some generated media to not only cover up some unwanted footage but also to give it a widescreen type of an effect. however, due to the weird resolution of the render, the generated media cannot fill up the entire bottom part of the video and is leaking some visible footage to the sides of it which makes it look just awful. i have triple checked that the resolution on the video properties in vegas is 640x512. i also saw that the video i rendered said it was 640x512. but it sure doesnt look that way. my explanation is most likely bad and barely understandable so heres the first 25 secs of the film ive been working on.

you will see this problem at the last 8-9 secs of this short little clip. (10mb)

Project properties are under File -> Properties. This sets the properties for the project while you are working.

Output properties come from File -> Render As, and then the Custom button when you have picked an output codec.

just an update, i thought i could fix this problem by rerendering it and redoing the media generated stuff with a fresh veg file and using the already rendered video as a base, no luck though.... still renders with the strange H type shape with leaks on the side. you want my base veg file to see what properties gone wrong?

The video you posted is 640 x 512. Vegas is doing exactly what you are telling it to do. You need to look at how you are creating the letterboxing.

    letter boxing = generated media?

i double checked that it is exactly 640x512. i tried making it wider using frame of referance. it will not get any wider during the render.....arrhhgg...frustrating.

i have 2 extra vid streams that are on top of everything else. i then have a black screen for each stream and simply pulled the frame of referance lower or higher until i got the desired effect. pretty newb and raw but it used to work for me...now...not so much.
