I'm working with Ulead Video Studio 10 which I really like to use. But everytime I use this program (I mean everytime) at no particular phase of the program (capture, edit, or share) the program becomes unresponsive and I have to go into task manager and end the process. I have 3 other video editing programs that I have and they don't do that. Because of this problem is why I have the 3 other programs although they have their own set of problems to use (feature wise, the programs just won't do what I need them to do).

Sometimes I can get through the editing process with out going unresponsive only when I go to the share and make disc, the menu selection bombs the program out. I had this same problem with version 9 which was why I was so eager to upgrade to version 10. I have uninstalled and reloaded several times with no help. I run windows xp pro sp2. I have 512mb ram and an Intel 2.6 gig processor. I have 2 - 200gig hard drives. This program is the closeest thing that I need to work on the projects that I'm involved in. Ulead support was useless. I tried disableling all startup programs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Right click on the programs start menu icon and choose Properties. Click the Compatibilities tab and select "Run this program in Compatibility Mode" then select "Windows 2000" from the drop down list box. Will probably fix it.

    Good luck.

I find I have to 'save' frequently with MSP just in case it crashes
Ulead finally got forums early this year
If the problem persists, try there

I tried the compatability setting and the program still becomes unresponsive. I never would have thought of that approach so I do appreciate the suggestion. I had some thoughts of getting another computer and just have my video editing programs on it and use it solely for that purpose. I'm almost to the point of doing that. I've searched the Ulead forums for problems such as this and did not find any so it must not be something that is very common.

The Ulead site list an update patche for v10. http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm#top. It claims to fix a few unstable and crash bugs. I would install the patch as see if it helps.

I would also try updating your video cards display driver. Might help, might not.

Checking for updated sound card drivers wouldn't hurt either.

If you could narrow down the causes some it might be easier to figure out. Like does it only crash with DV files or mpeg files or etc. Does it crash if you do something simple like capturing a short video clip using the DVD preset then exporting the video to a new file without adding and transitions, etc. Maybe try importing a known good video clip like a portion of a ripped dvd, crop the time down to say a 5 minute clip then export that to say uncompressed AVI. My idea is to narrow down the cause of these crashes by simplifying the test routines. A narrower problem may be easier to fix.

Besides that I don't know. The Ulead site is full of complaints about the program and most are blamed on corrupted files (mpeg or dv video files with problems) making the program unstable. That happens in all program.

One time working in UVS v7 on a huge project that took me a few days to finish I found I could not export it out. I didn't want v7 to encode it mpeg2 because I wanted to use Tmpgenc Plus. I tried every option and the only one that worked was uncompressed. Everything else crashed somewhere along the way. The uncompressed file wound up with errors that I could never fix even in VirtualDub, so I tried mpeg2 export. It crashed..... I could not get my project out of it. I then reinstalled my old v6 and recreated the entire project from scratch again. What a bummer. I threw v7 in the trash. It was junk.

I almost didn't buy v10 but after trying it a couple weeks I decided it was pretty nice. The best Ulead has offered yet IMO.

Figure this thing out. Install the patch, look for updated drivers, and start testing easy stuff.

You might want to look over the ulead uninstall procedure http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?p=55773#55773

    Good luck.
