Hello, I tried to search but could not find this anywhere. I have a JVC Everio video camera that saves files as .mod I save these to my PC HD directly and can play them with Nero. Windows Media Player will play them with the error "unrecognized file extension". I can not import them to edit them in neither Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere. Can anyone help me convert? What is the big deal? I can't believe it would be this difficult.....TIA![]()

Thanks, Red. Changing the file extension allowed me to open it in windows movie maker but it only had the sound, it would not display the picture. Adobe wouldn't import it, said it had an unsupported audio rate.
I found this in the manual: "Video files captured with this camera can only be handled on the provided software. Please install and use the provided software (PowerDirector Express, PowerProducer, and PowerDVD)"
What a bunch of tards. Anyway I can just use the video software I already have?

What's worse is we shot this video as a promotion to a certain company/web site. I need to send this in after I edit it, and they may want to edit it more. I would like to make these pure MPEG2 files that could be edited and put together on any decent software. It seems that JVC Everio want to keep the files associated with the software they are in bed with.
TIA for any help. -
Drop the 'converted to MPEG' file into Gspot 2.60 and see if it shows if you have the proper video codec installed. I don't know why the video doesn't show. If it is MPEG-2, you will need to add a MPEG-2 codec as that's not included on Windows. Try adding a player like PowerDVD, which will add the codec or just install a codec like Stinkys MPEG2 Codec. Alternately, it should display properly with VLC Media Player as it has it's own codecs.

Yes, gspot shows the video. And it plays fine in WMP, Nero, PowerDVD. I just can't get it into either of the video editing software I have. Windows lacks the video and Adobe doesn't support the audio.
I think I'll just try installing PowerDirector and see if it is any good. Thanks for the Stinky codecs, tho, this will probably solve another problem I am working on.

Fix:
Installed their crappy video editing software, imported file, edited nothing and saved as MPEG-2. This saved MPEG-2 file is now "normal" and loads into all other editing software.
What ever it takes baby!

Ok. Im new here.. so like hi..
I just bought a jvc camera because i was feeling compulsive and cheap. Didnt do any reasearch just went and bought it paying 100$ more than i could have picked one up for on ebay
. So i guess im officially classified as a moron
. the MOD format like everyone said is pretty much incompatible with everything
. The software that comes with it is ok enough to convert to mpeg2 but its an extra step that is annoying and time consuming...
I may have to smash it.
Other than the format its a fun little camera. However.. Im still considering bouncing it off a brick wall just so i can feel better
.. Nero Digital is able to read MOD and VOB files and does a decent job of converting to mp4 only.
Isnt that perfectly useless. ok.. (end rant)
