Use a USB sound card for the second source or a USB capture card? An audio mixer?

  3. A standard soundcard cannot record separately from the mic and line inputs.

You must have a second soundcard or use a capture device that also captures the sound.

What kind of video capture do you have?

Look into buying a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 or a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 350 (either model will work well).

This is a capture card that does MPEG-1/MPEG-2 hardware capture with audio. In short the card does all the processing and sends the MPEG file to your HDD.

It is possible to put 2 or more of these in a single computer and capture from each device so that you can record 2 or more difference programs at once.

It helps if you have a 2nd physical HDD that is very fast. In other words try not to capture to the boot HDD (the one with Windows installed on it).

Does this mean that two instances of WinTV can run concurrently?

I'm going on stuff that I have read ... never did it myself.

But I know at least one person on here said he was running two and one of the hardware sites (Tom's Hardware or that other one that starts with an "A" I think) did a test where they had ... if I recall correctly ... 5 running in one machine.

So yeah I guess you can run two instances of WinTV 2k.

If you have an external USB capture device that does full hardware encoding type captures (as most USB capture devices do ... although not all) and if your internal capture card does full hardware encoding type captures (and not all do) then yes it would work.

However it sounds like the internal capture card you have now does not do full hardware encoding type captures meaning when you capture with it you are probably getting very high CPU usage when using it.

So trying to use that while also capturing with another device (even if that other device does Full hardware encoding type captures) is a recipe for disaster.
