  1. Hello! I have recently built a new computer and upon doing so added to new dvd burners:
    LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S
    _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A
I also own to dvd players/recorders:
    Pioneer DVR-633H
    SONY DVP-NS90V
Since the new setup, when I goto play certain dual layer discs, they play fine in the Sony but either lock up my Pioneer Player, or just sit there with a black screen and the play icon showing. Does anyone have any ideas as to why? Thanks for your time and help!

    Jake

What DVD media are you using?
And you say 'certain discs'? What's the difference between those and the discs that play on both machines?
If you burned them OK on a previous burner or system, what is different?
What software was used for making the DVD and burning them?

My first guess would be the DVD media at fault. That's the most common cause of playback problems.
Then it would be creation or copy software and next the burning software.

You would need to supply more information to get much of a answer.

  3. I am using Nero to burn. I am using the same media Ritek I know most people bash them but I have never had an issue. I haven't noticed much of a pattern thats why I said certain discs, but for instance I made backups of my Sex and The City and my Sopranos(Fine on both). My Ren & Stimpy-Lost Episodes one disc works the other doesnt, My copies of OC work on the Sony but hang at the black screen on Pioneer. As far as system everything is DIFFERENT. Two different burners, New Dual-Core CPU, New Mobo, and the Hard Drives are SATA not IDE. I think thats it! Thanks!

Just for an experiment, I would pick up a couple of Verbatim DLs and see what they do. That would at least show the Riteks are not likely as the problem.

And I would try ImgBurn, especially with DL discs. Nero doesn't have a good track record with that format.
