I made a copy of a video to a sonydvd-r(accucore) disc. now i tried to make a copy of that copy and i get this error message: error copying file or folder, cannot copy VTS_04_1, cyclic redundancy check.

my question, what does that mean and how do i stop it from happening when i make a copy of a copy?

    Generally this error occurs because

    1. The disc you are trying to copy is scratched or has finger-prints on it
    2. When it was originally burned it did not burn correctly
    3. It was burned originally to low grade media and the disc is now dying

If the disc was a commercial original (not a copy) it could also be the way your ripper is reacting to ArCoSS protection, however as it is a copy, it will be one of the first three.

How do you stop it happening in the future ?

    1. Always use the best quality media.
    2. Always use the best quality media
    3. Treat your discs with respect. Never touch the surface, store in cases, not pouches, and keep them dark and cool and upright when not in use
    4. Test your burns. I use DVD Info Pro's read test. Nero Speed Disc has a similar function. If they don't read after a burn, throw them out and do it again.

Note also : there are a lot of variables in burning DVDs. There is nothing you can do to prevent this happening again. All you can do is try to minimise it.

Personally not a big fan of the disc books, but that is a personal thing.

Like I said - there is no definitive answer. All you can do is the best you can to minimise the issue. You cannot stop it happening.

The copy u made ... how long ago ???

Reason I'm asking is because if it was awhile back ... then it has had time to get scratched. Try using DVD Decrypter to rip it back to your harddrive and pay attention to what vob file messes up. Then try and look at the DVD Disk and see if you can see damage. The reading of the disk begins from the inside.

I have two CD/DVD disk repair kits ... one at home and one with me at work. The compound I use to buff out scratches .... Colgate Toothpaste with baking soda.

  7. I've also had this happen when trying to copy over older discs to my harddrive that have sticky labels on them.
For the most part I've been lucky in that when I've soaked the labels off using warm, soapy water they copy over with no problem.
I learned my lesson! No more sticky labels for me.

  8. I have problem using soapy water to remove label. The glue run over and smudge the data surface.

If you have multiple DVD burners, you may want to read it back with the original burner.

You can also try DVDdecrypter iso read with error ignore turn on.

I had that problem too at first but what I do is put a soft cloth in the palm of my hand and then the disc on top of that (data side on the cloth) and then I pick away at the label with my fingers.

There's usually a bit of gunk left on the disc afterwards so I use my old drive (that's not good for much else anymore) to read from those then I burn to a nice fresh TY

i've tried DVDFab Decrypter and DVDFab Platinum, i've tried to copy and paste it into another folder, i've tried nero burning rom and nero recode but nothing works

the disc is a week old and it's the first time i've used the disc since burning and playing/checking it to see if it works.

i'm going to buy some verbatim dvd-r discs today and start burning at a slower speed and hopefully that solves my problem.

    keep the suggestions coming.

    thanks

  11. Burning DVD at a lower speed don't really help.
