how can i make the files smaller to fit on cdr. I have seen it done but dont know what software was used. i have about 30 songs i want to put on one cdr so i wont have to change out cds. i've had one before with about 100 songs on it and it still had some good quality on it. Do anyone know where to get the software to resize mp3 file and still play on my cd player,

    Does your player play MP3's?

To make the files smaller you must re-encode at a lower bitrate, use Cdex for this.

I don't understand what you're doing to those songs...

    By my math:

    700MB (CD) * 1024KB/MB = 716,800KB
    * 8b/B = 5,734,400kb

If you're encoding at the top rate of 320kbps...

    /320kbps = 17,920sec. available
    / 60sec/min = 298 2/3 min.

With an average song length of 3 1/2 minutes...
    /3.5 min./song = 85 1/3 songs per disc AT THE TOP BITRATE!

    At 128kbps, that's 213 1/3 songs.

Either your songs are real long (in which case you SHOULD have less per disc), or you're putting other stuff on those discs.

But for goodness sake, if you've already encoded them to mid-low BR mp3's, don't ruin them further by RE-compressing them!

Hell, 30 songs per disc--I've got standard LPCM AudioCD's with almost that many tracks!

MP3 audio on a CD is not an Audio CD, so do not use the option to create an Audio CD. You need to create a data CD to preserve the MP3 files at their current size. Creating an Audio CD (which I suspect is what you are doing) will convert your audio back to CD spec LPCM, which gives you up to 74 minutes on a standard 650MB CD.

However, as pointed out, the data option will not play back in a standard CD player unless it also supports MP3 audio playback.

Yeah, now that you mention it guns1inger, it does sound like the OP must be (accidentally) making an AudioCD...

Nearly any ol' burner app can make a good Mode1 Data CD though, so there's lots to choose from as long as (s)he realizes it needs to be data files. (I assumed they knew the difference, which is why I mentioned 700MB--max disc size for an 80min. Mode1CD)

i am sorry for all this but I just wanted to hear more music on on cd to play in my car or home stero. right now i use musicmatch to burn the cds. It only allows so many songs to fit on the 700 mbs cd. So what I need is to put more songs on the cdr so i wont have to change the cd out after 30 mintues. how do i get more songs ona cdr without losing any quality. there has to be a program that does this because i have a cd withlike a hundred songs on it. I will try the cdex program though. thanks for the help

If you need to burn the CD as a music (redbook) CD, then you are restricted to around 74 minutes on a 650 MB CDR, and 80 minutes on a 700MB CDR. There is nothing you can do to change this and get reliable burns. Some burning software supports overburn to try to squeeze a little extra on, but you don't get much more, and they become unreliable to play.

If you want more on a disc, replace your car and home players with ones that will read and play MP3 from a data disc. You can then put several hours on a CDR by burning them as data files.

Any burning software can create a data CD. However if your car or home player do not play mp3 files, they will not play a data disc. Imgburn 2 can do it, as can CDBurnerXP Pro and others. Even Nero can do this if you have it.

However you need to be sure your car stereo and home stereo will play MP3 files from a data disc.
