I thought I would archive some TV footage recorded on my Panasonic EX75 recorder. So first I copied from the Recorder's HDD to a DVD-RAM disc. It contained about 12 clips, with a total length of 32 mins recorded in SP mode. When I transferred these clips from the DVD-RAM disc to my PC's hard drive, all the clips were joined as one, in 1 VRO file = 1.2GB.

I renamed the extension to MPG, with the hope of going through TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress, and editing/cutting the clips into their individual files, and coverting to xVid along the way.

However for some reason the clips are showing in the timeline, as all over the place, and not in the sequential order, they were originally copied to on the DVD-RAM disc. Also some of the clips when viewed back in the timeline, contain audio from other clips. It's also showing 2hrs 20mins as the total length, when I know it's only approx 32mins long.

I have managed to cut/edit 3 clips that were displayed fine, without any audio sync problems, but wonder if anyone could tell me how I can go about, editing out the other clips.

I know the 1.2GB source file is okay, because I have played it through PowerDVD without any audio sync problems, and the clips all play in the correct order.

Personally I leave them as VRO and use MVW to edit.

IsoBuster Pro, not the free version, reads the DVD-RAM disks properly (from my Pani ES20 anyway). I was having the same sort of problem 'till I tried that.

So is the corruption occuring when I copy the VRO file from the DVD-RAM disk to the hard drive, or when I rename the extension to MPG?

Womble MPEG Video Wizard does sound great, but I'm not looking to pay so much, unless it's something I will be doing on a regular basis.

The only TMPG product I have got in the XPress 4.0 version. It doesn't have any Import DVD Video options, you just open a project and import your clips.

Cheers - I will try IsoBuster, and see if that helps.

It seems to be in the copying. It was the same sort of problem, file sizes that didn't make sense, out of order video, mismatched or absent audio. Renaming to mpg or vob didn't make a difference. Neither did demuxing. My guess was I didn't have a needed driver. After about four months of the same problem, I broke down and spent the money on the pro version and it worked. It can also read unfinalized -rw, I found out recently. Nice when I put the wrong type of disk in the recorder

Took me awhile to find it again but I use the Panasonic Movie Album software with the Copy Tool. This will see the separate programs on a DVD-RAM and let you transfer them to your computer. If you want to get the disc from a Panasonic repair depot the disc is part number LSFT0643-1A. There are also updates to the software. Now to make sure I keep this somewhere I can find it in case I get another hard drive crash.....
