What sort of movies ?
What sort of sync problem ?
If it is an avi, and the audio is out by a constant amount the whole way through, virtualdubmod can be used to adjust the audio skew without re-encoding. You can use MPC or SyncView to see how far it needs to be adjusted. You could even try to use SyncView to fix the audio.
If it is drifting in and out of sync, or gets further out of sync the longer it goes, it is much harder to fix.Read my blog here.

This is going to assume you have a constant asynch, that it's off by the same amount all the way through.
Open the AVI in Media Player Classic. Right-click the screen and go Options->Filter->Audio Switcher->check the "audio time shift" box, and fill in an estimate of the amount of asynch. Hit "Apply" and test it out. Negative values are to make the audio play earlier. 1000 ms= 1 second. Resume playback. Adjust until you get it right. At that point you'll know how much the audio is out of synch and how much to set the delay in VDubMod. Then open the AVI in VDubMod, set the Video for Direct Stream Copy, go Streams->Stream List->Right-click the audio->Interleaving->Audio Skew Correction, and set the same delay as you found using MPC. OK your way out of there, go File->Save As, give it a new name, wait a minute or 2, and test it out.
When all done, either uncheck the box or set the audio time shift back to 0 in MPC. -

Syncview dose have its problems , esspecially with full length titles ... forget the playback function , it's pure garbage .
To test audio is out , you need to play it back in several players to make absolutely sure the problem exists first and not within the actual video players ... and beaware of those idiot programs that run from the startup ... some can degrade system performance durring the test ... best ... if you dont need a program currently running in the task tray , and it is not a required system program ... then get them to exit first .
The next issue is , can it be edited in vdub , make's thing's simpler , if it can then syncview should beable to handle it ... if not , it's up to you to decide ... personally I prefer to push people to use super as it dosent cost user's ... convert to (video = xvid) , (audio = wav CBR only) ... I hate VBR and so dose vdub .
Nstc to pal and versa appear to be almost perfect in the currect release ... though vob output is something else .
NOTE : Those who love vbr ... it's like cutting your legs off ... with a fork ... dont touch it ... it will only come back it bite you later .
Next :
Audio found to get worse as the file plays over time ? .... suggested to use audio scew ???
There are two items too take notice of in vdub .
1: Audio scew is only to correct the position the audio starts in playback ... This is that fuction covered and it's ONLY function .
2: Vdub , any version , do not do well when playing back full length titles .
You will find problems will grow with audio sync ... so dont do this ever .
For audio that gets worse gradually , either forward or backwards ... it is caused by an incorrect framerate in the video stream ... adjust ... save as a new avi , and try it in any real video player ... not in vdub .
You might need to do this a couple of time's before it is correct .
------------------------
Getting to grips with those nightmares ...
Syncview :
Open the avi in vdub ... and go to a point prior to characters speaking as start cut mark .
The end cut point will be after the scene where the characters are nolonger speaking .
Do not make adjustments in character speech area's ... well try not doing it .
Ok , we have our scene set ... set video and audio to direct stream copy , and save it as test.avi
Load this test avi in vdub ... here you use AUDIO SCEW to adjust the audio position to a more suitable timing with the characters .
When you have found this "amount of audio scew" that works ... go into snycview ... go forward till you are on the starting position of this point within the avi , and add the audio scew amount .
You will now save this audio file with the adjustment made from this set point ... and to the very end of the entire avi .
I dont recall off the top of my head if syncview can generate the avi with the fixed audio or not as I am currently using my new system which is not yet completed with all the tool's .
1: If yes ... playback the avi in video player ... and locate the next time and location that need's repair , and repeat the step's above .
2: If not ... open the problem avi in vdub , set video to dirrect stream copy ... set audio to none , and save as copy1.avi
B: Load copy1.avi ... under audio chose wav , and load the wav generated by syncview .
C: Set both video and audio to direct stream copy , and save as fixed.avi
3: Now delete all avi's except for fixed.avi
--------------------------
Repeat the process , but be mindfull of which avi's are where , and when you delete file's ...
The last thing you want to do is a lot of good work , only to run fowl of an accidental brain freeze in control of the delete key ...
---------------------------
If you understand the basic's of the above instructions regarding syncview , you should beable to fix alot of problems very quickly ... the only issue is the speed of the pc you are currently going to use to perform the correction ... the faster , the sooner you will have it done .
