I have a DVD that I created a number of years ago and now want to convert it to AVI but not the complete DVD.

I firstly used DVD Shrink and re-Authored it to select the scenes I wanted. When creating the ISO and then only taking the VOBs I need, I ended up with 4 VOBs.

The first is the introduction and holds no audio while the remaining VOBs contain the movie detail (no chapters).

I would have expected DVD2AVI would have done the conversion for me but ended with an AVI with no audio and an associated WAV with the audio. Then some how I would have to glue them back together to give me the AVI I want with audio.

What's the best method of achieving my goal of one AVI with audio ?

    Regards
    Fritzables.

AutoGK or avi.net will do it for you, or you can use virtualdubmod to add the audio and video back together. Open the avi in virtualdubmod, and go Streams -> Stream List. Click on Add and select your audio. Click OK, then go File -> Save As. Make sure you are using Direct Stream Copy, and you will have a new avi, with audio, in a minute or two.

    Hey gunslinger,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, ultimately I would like to use AutoGK but from what I understand it can only convert one VOB at a time resulting in 4 AVIs which I don't want.

If I can glue the VOBs together to give me one (with audio) this would be awesome.

VOBMerge will take your VOB files and give you one continuous VOB.

Tried this last night - it works fine but produces a VOB with no audio - unless I have cocked up

You can also rip to a single VOB with DVD decrypter. Use IFO mode, and make sure you have File Splitting set to None in preferences.

  7. but from what I understand it can only convert one VOB at a time resulting in 4 AVIs which I don't want.

You understand wrong. If they're consecutively numbered, point to the first and the rest get loaded also:
If you want to encode multiple input files into one resulting AVI you can do it by appropriately naming input files: *_1.vob;*_2.vob etc and selecting just the first one (Extension can be any of supported types apart from AVI).

Or you can load the IFO if there's only one PGC in that VTS. Or you can decrypt in IFO Mode using DVD Decrypter.
