Ok, basically I'm wanting to go from my source Xvid..avi,with 23.976 framerate to compliant ntsc dvd. I know I have to change the framerate but i'm kinda stuck on the process. Should I use dgpulldown before doing my encode with cce or...encoded with cce with the source specs and then use dgpulldown afterwards...Any help would be much appreciated and if I haven't given enough info then feel free to ask for more.

DGPulldown works on MPEG files, so you would use that after encoding your AVI to MPEG.

But CCE can do pulldown itself while making the encode.
There seems to be an option on the screenshot there anyway.

CCE's pulldown works perfectly well. Encode as 23.976 with 2:3 pulldown in CCE and you won't need DGPulldown at all. If you were converting to PAL it would be a different story.

It just alters the order of the repeat frames. I use 2:3 and it works fine. My understanding is that they are pretty much interchangeable.

No. That is the beauty of pulldown. It doesn't alter the actual number of frames in the video, or the total running time. What is does do is tell the playback device when to create extra frames to achieve a given framerate.
