i'm trying to convert a .wmv file i have to .avi so i then can convert the .avi file to .mp4 so i can watch the .mp4 file on my psp.
the problem is the convertor i'm currently using "psp video 9" does not let you easily convert .wmv to .avi. it can be done but i was just reading up on it and it seems like a big pain in the ass.
is there a simpler way i can convert my .wmv files to .avi?

Super or use Windows Movie Maker and export to dv-avi.

hi again baldrick, ok what i'm doing now is i'm trying to convert my .wmv file to .avi
i loaded up my .wmv file in super i then used the multimedia analysis tool to see what settings the .wmv file was using i set all those settings the same in super with the exception of video bitrate. the reason being the .wmv file i have says it has a bitrate of 3173 and in super there is no setting for a bitrate of 3173. the closest bitrate i could find was 3168 so thats what i used.
is this what i should have done.
also when setting the output video and audio codecs i wasn't sure what to choose so i left them at default which was h.264/avc for video and mp3 for audio.
what video and audio output scodecs should i use because i know when i convert the .avi to .mp4 using psp video 9 it usually gets larger in size so ideally i'd like the .avi file to be as small as possible so i was thinking either dixv or xvid but i wasn't sure which way to go what do you recommend?
as far as the audio codec should i just leave it as .mp3?
and last but not least there was 3 options i wasn't sure about high quality was checked, stretch it was checked and under dvd language select audiostream track # it was set to default.
do i want to change any of those settings or leave them as is? -
You might want to take a look at Virtualdub-MPEG2

Why not just try the PSP profile in the long list of output containers?
I don't have a PSP so I can't speak intelligently on if it works or not.
