If you have AVI files, typically Xvids or similar downloaded from the net, they may have MP3 VBR audio. Gspot is one way to see if this is a fact. Look to the little green window on the right side of the Audio area. If 'VBR' is lit, then it could be the problem. It commonly causes sync problems when you convert the video to MPEG-2 to burn to DVD. AC3 audio can occasionally cause this also.
If this is the problem, you can save out the audio as a WAV with a program like VirtualDub Mod, then process it separately before joining it back with the video when you author your video to DVD format. -

I do not see a green window on the right side of the Audio area.VBR is not lit. :( Am I doing something wrong?
The info I can see is Path,Size and under Container
File Type: ASF (.WMA/.WMV)
Mime Type: video/x-ms-asf
The problem is that this info appears on two different files:when converted to dvd,one of them is OK,but the other is out of sync.Does this make any sense? And what is the problem? -

I used Nerovision Express 4 and made a DVD from the file that way.
Most people here will frown upon Nerovision, and I don't use it much for anything, but it did the trick for me this time. -
Nerovision would probably work as good as another program. I would try SUPER first, though. I suspect the ASF video could still have VBR audio, along with VBR video. Makes it very hard to convert without sync problems. Throw in DRM encryption and it's hardly worth the effort.
The problem with VBR audio is that most MPEG encoders can't measure or 'see' the length of the audio. So they make it some odd length when they re-encode it, at least not the same length as the video, and then you have a sync problem.

I so not have Nerovision Express 4,I have Nerovision Express 3 but it doesn't work.
"That's the problem. It's a WMV file, not an AVI"
Ok,but why does only one file of this type work?If that is the problem, shouldn't BOTH files(same type) be out of sync? -

It didn't work for LloydAZ, but maybe it will for you:
Open in WindowsMovieMaker(2)--but don't let it "make clips" based on I-frames, which is a waste of time here.
Drag to timeline (audio+video), Don't edit, just export:
Use File | "SaveMovieFile" | MyComputer | ... | ... | Other settings --> DV-AVI (PAL)
This will be a type1 DV-AVI file (which is hard for lots of apps to use), so you may need to change it into a type2 DV-AVI file with the freeware DVDate. Then you shouldn't have any problem with it.
From there, open in your usual apps and convert to MPEG2/DVD and enjoy!
Hopefully, you won't have any sync problems this way...
