I was wondering if I could ask your advice re dvd formatting. I am a bit stuck as to how I can overcome the difference in region codes of different countries when submitting DVDs.
I am base dinthe UK , only have final cut pro and toast titanium for burning. How should I export from FCP for example when wanting to send something to the US? and then whoch selections should i choose from toast? For example US is region 1and we are 2, I don't have any software to convert this when burning discs or copies of my video works, I only have PAl and am not sure at what stage Toast can help me make it NTSC or the correct region code if at all. ...
much appreicated, also does the fact i have a emac limit me too

The Region code is not added by Toast. It is a creation of the DVD industry to restrict the player on which a commercial DVD may be used. So an individual burning a DVD in Toast will not introduce a Region Code onto the disc.
As for NTSC/PAL, that may be set in Toast's preferences.
eMac limitation - only that it's somewhat slow. ;D -
hi,thanks for your response,I am not sure where you are writing froM?
Ok, so practicality wise, I am a video artist with final cut pro and i have imported my quicktimes back int here - how should i exports them so that someone in the US or out of my region code can watch them?
i recall seeing in the toast menu that you can choose ntsc or pal too, so i thought that this would add to the process> ?
this is to export my own work and not a dvd i already have ... though i also ahve dvd versions of my videowork... any suggestions on a step by step?
thanks very much in advance -
In FCP, you may set NTSC/PAL; I believe it should be set for whatever your footage is (not what you want it to be).
If your footage is PAL but you want to transcode it to PAL, Toast will do this with the DV footage. You may also use ffmpegX to accomplish this.
Look in the guides for ffmpegX how-to's (also at the website). The Toast manual (or Help file) will detail the process for that app.
If you have only the DVD of your videowork (and not the original content), you may copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive and drop the first VOB into MPEG Streamclip (the app will ask whether you want the rest of the VOBs in the video to be added too), and export to MPEG2. Set the framerate to 29.97 and you'll end up with NTSC. (There's more to it than that.) You may also use Toast for this transcoding.
Others will chime in with suggestions. Be patient.
