My house was recently robbed. The burglars left my DVD player, but took the remote. It's a Yamakawa DVD-288. I've had no luck finding a replacement remote, and emails to the company have gone unanswered for over a month. I haven't found a universal remote that recognizes it. Any suggestions?

This is just a shot in the dark, but it is what most recently comes to mind. I needed to order a Pioneer remote. Could have ordered it directly from Pioneer, but their website wants you to open an account with them first, and I'm kinda allergic to red tape or complications. Someone on AVS mentioned this outfit:
    http://www.partstore.com
They seem to have parts (including remotes) for a great many makes and models. The first time I looked, their price was a little bit cheaper than what it would be from Pioneer, but by the time I ordered, the price was the same. The remote came very promptly, and was well packed. It was sealed and brand new looking -- very unlikely to be a refurb, if that thought has crossed our minds. I was impressed enough to see if they can provide replacements / spares for a couple other items. The only possible negative I ran into was that my browser tossed up a warning that it could not vouch for the authenticity of their THAWTE site certificate, or whatever that thing is. But, y'know, the proof of the pudding . . . .

  5. I haven't found anything that my One For All 8910 can't be upgraded over the phone to operate. $20 new, $9 refurb at Amazon. Most codes have advanced functions they will e-mail if you ask for them, they cover almost, if not all, functions of the original remote.

All for one/One for all? would be my first try for a universal (not that I am endorsing a product, it is what Wally world had and it worked for me)

Mine was a good replacement and it adapted to a few other devices.

Two points to be aware of
    #1 don't loose the book
#2 don't step on the remote

You could buy it, try it and if you don't like it, return it.

I had mine working the TV, VCR, Cable completly. I seem to recall that there was a function or problem with a cheap DVD player that annoyed me, but I admit it may not have been a device problem maybe an owner ineptitude issue. At any rate it got crushed by accident and my Sat remote does all I need now

Another side note. I first found out about them when somebody broke in and stole my remote and left the TV. Ain't that a pisser!
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

That list from Mikel would keep you busy for awhile, but I just came across one more:

Haven't tried them yet, but I may be needing an older JVC replacement remote that has been hard to find. I did find one on ebay that was fairly close, but it was missing certain important buttons.

Does anyone have experience with those kits you can buy, for taking a remote apart and cleaning the gunk out of them that may be causing the problem ? Waste of time ??
