I'm trying to get rid of the last Imation DVD-Rs I've got, so I'm just regulating them to special features that won't fit on the main (Verbatim) disc.

I haven't watched all the Imation discs yet, but some pixilate. And sometimes it's not that bad on a disc, other times it's unwatchable. But all in all no great loss, but I don't want to waste them, either.

I believe it's the quality of the media and the speed I'm burning them at(8x). I've yet to have a problem with burning the Verbs at 8x, but they're overall better anyway. Am I correct in my assumption?

    Thanks in advance.

I think those assumptions are too broad. The name on the disc doesn't usually mean much. What is important is the manufacturers code. Some disc companies have the same version disc made in different locations, by different manufacturers. And even with that, the quality can vary by batch. If you check the manufacturers code and see what that manufacturers track record is for quality, then you may be better able to judge one brand from another.

lordsmurf has a site about DVD quality that has a lot of good info: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

some drives burn certain media better at certain speeds. verbs +16x burns best at 8x in my pio 111 but liteons burn them better at 12x. in other words... you'll have to do a scan (nero etc) to figure out what's the better speed.
