I have just made my 1st mpeg to DVD and I like it ...

I have a few questions I had some interference while recoding it on my tv card and I have some slight noise on the recorded file that shows up in the DVD.

Here is an image form the file the left circle is more digitized and the right is normal.

    http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/3654/imagefilterti1.png

I'm looking for a filter program for video file preferably mpeg. Cause I don't know how to search for them.

I used Nero Vision which came with as a suit with Nero burning ROM I was wondering if anyone could suggest a better suit, program or programs ... for DVD editing and DVD movie authoring (and if at all possible with video file filtering to sharpen up the video image)

And there is so much info in this forum about video stuff and I don't want to read stuff I'm not going to use so could you all post some guide or web pages to read

You have an ATI capture card. My understanding is that it is "best" to use the ATI software but you can probably use any of the following:

    1.) iuVCR
    2.) VirtualVCR
    3.) TheFlyDS

Basically the concept is that you want to capture to an AVI file using little to no compression. The AVI format you use is called a "codec". Popular codecs include HuffyUV and PICVideo MJPEG. Technically speaking HuffyUV is better and it is free whereas PICVideo MJPEG is not free.

Once you have your AVI file you can then convert it to MPEG-2 DVD spec using an encoder such as CCE or TMPGEnc Plus or Mainconcept MPEG encoder. Those all cost money and of those I suggest CCE but there is a freeware solution and that program is called HCenc and the quality is pretty impressive for a free program.

As far as filtering goes look into using AviSynth. To test your AviSynth scripts you will want VirtualDubMod.

Here is a guide I wrote about using a "video nose" filter: CLICK HERE

So instead of capturing the video in Mpeg format like a regular capture it in avi format and convert it to mpg2-dvd.
I got ATI TV Wonder Pro - 9.14 Media Center
Would I be able to edit the video in avi format?
ATI offers editing software for video files?
Does AVI to DVD offer a better encoding than Mpeg to DVD-Mpeg

I plan on getting an ati all in wonder card to give me pic in pic with tvcards but I saw on ati site that they use adobe element software (was that what you ment when you posted use the ati software and suggested other software to use in substitute of the ATI software)

I have more questions but I can't think of them all so thanks for your post.

It depends on what your card is capable of. In general, you want the "master", the source material you will edit, to be as clear and artifact free as possible, that means a highly versatile format, and AVI with lossless codec is better than MPEG1 in this case.

However, if your card is capable of capture straight to MPEG2, and the resolution is compliant with the DVD standard, then you just saved yourself a lot of trouble, provided that your editing program takes MPEG2s.

Well you said that you want to do some video noise filtering.

So the best way to do that is to capture to an AVI file using a codec that uses little to no compression.

You only use the ATI software for the capture.

After that there are a variety of tools (most freeware) to assist with editing and filtering and conversion to MPEG-2 DVD spec files.

Did you see that guide I linked you to in my other post? It shows how to edit and use a video filter all using freeware programs.

Is there any thing out there that will help me edit out commercials from my recordings with little or no effort.
And re author them to have the video play on a DVD. I know I have the software that does that but I want to know what else is out there.

    Depends on how you capture.

If you capture MPEG then you would use one set of programs VS if you capture AVI and bear in mind that AVI can be a number of codecs.

No one "best" program for all formats.

So of course the question now for you is what capture format you talking about in reference to your question?

Then you need TMPGenc DVD Author 2.0

This is an excellent program that allows you to import your captures and edit them (simple "cut" editing i.e., trimming the start and end and cutting out TV commercials) and then create a custom DVD menu with chapters and finally it will create a DVD for you in the end.

    Hi,
A quick and easy MPEG2 "chop out comercials" programme
    is Mpg2Cut2 from

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Mpg2Cut2

works well with my tv captures. Then I just use NeroVisionExpress
to "make a movie" rather than 'make a dvd'. NVE in 'make a movie'
mode just joins all your cuts together and you can then edit and add
    chapters etc.

    Cuttermaran from
    http://www.cuttermaran.de

is a very good cutting programme but you need to demux the mpeg file
    first using ProjectX

    http://download.videohelp.com/download/ProjectX_090.4.00.zip

then run it through cuttermaran, and finally remux (I use Imago) from

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ImagoMPEG-Muxer
