    HI,

just a quick one. I have just purchased a Loewe lcd pannel and have been watching dvds through euro scart. now that I have upgraded to component I am getting a black edge down either side of the screen. My dvd player is not an upscaling version so is this to be expected?
OH by the way I am not getting confused wit 16:9 and 4:3. the lines I am talking about are very narrow and are gone if I go back to euro scart
    cheers,
    benny

On all DVDs, or just 1.33 - 1.66 aspect ratio discs ? On a widescreen (16:9) TV, you should see vertical black bars up either side when watching discs that would have filled the screen on a standard 4:3 set.

It should have been happening on the scart as well. If not, the image would have either been cut off top and bottom, or stretched sideways so everyone looked fat.

so maybe the scart was a compromised picture and the component is true to size?
on The Fifth Element I get the normal horazontal lines top and bottom but now I get a thin 1cm line down each side ( this was 2cm down one side but I used pic. geometry to even it up). On a 16:9 dvd such as buffy or angel I just get the thin lines either side

Now that you describe it like that, no, it doesn't sound right. It sounds like the TV needs to be adjusted for the different signal inputs.

Yeh I thought that too. I went back through the connection wizzard and repeated my set up
but nothing changed. Also checked the dvd set up again just to be sure. My dvd player is a Yamaha pro scan but it is a few years old and it was a cheap model. The tv manual does suggest to use pic. geometry to make the picture fit best when using HDMI, Component or XGA/VGA so maybe it comes back to the player. I am using Monster cables. Nothing else I can think of....
