  1. Recently, when I try to write a DVD movie folder to DVD I have been making coasters. I use good authoring software to create the required DVD files.
I can write CD's on the drives and DVD data to DVD's, write DIVX to DVD, but I cannot write DVD movie files.
Any ideas as to what the problem may be? I've tried a bucnh of stuff, but no luck.

What DVD media are you using? What do you mean by 'coasters'? Not recognized, not playing, only playing on the computer? What errors does the player give? What did you change from when they did work?

There is not enough information given to make much more than a guess.

  3. I've used Phillips, Memorex, same that use to work well. Almost any media has worked in the past. The writer starts to write, but fails usually at the end of writing. The DVD shows a dark ring on the outside and some show what looks like writing across the inside. They do not play, nor are they recognized by PC or standalone player. I don't think anything has changed, other than I loaded and ran System Mechanic. Its really hard to say. Other than DVD Movies, everything else seems to burn OK

  4. System Mechanic? Were you having problems?

    Anyway Try Imgburn. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ImgBurn

It'll take DVD ready files and burn them using its own burning engine. If that fails then you have problems.

That does sound a bit strange. If data discs burn perfect to that same area where the MPEG DVD failed, then it sounds like a software problem. As TBoneit said, you could try ImgBurn.

But I would also wonder about the authoring and possibly the encoding program, though I can't imagine what they would do to cause those sort of problems.

Do you have the same problem with DVDShrink backups? If they work properly, then that would point to a authoring/encoding problem with the other files. BTW, what burning/encoding/authoring software are you using?

  6. I've been at this a while and I haven't changed the way I've done things. I took an encoded file to another computer and it burned fine with a program that had problems on my original PC.
CCE, Ashampoo, TMPG, Clone DVD2 etc. They've all worked well in the past.
Planning another fun day of wiping the PC and reloading Windows.

  7. As a follow up - burned an ISO with Imgburn - no problem. I gave up and formatted and reloaded the works - pain in the ...
Back up and running and everything is a little cleaner. Strange problem.

  8. Are you sure System Mechanic is a legitimate program and not some spyware/malware application? It seems that everything was OK until you loaded it.

I've seen more computers messed up that were previously working by running things like Norton System Works

    Hi doggyofone

Your System Mechanic can be the culprit.
I have one too and every time I run it it erases something from HP scanner files, so when I use it I have to reload software for it.
