What software have you been using for the conversion ?
What file extension do the files have ?
Tried loading them into GSpot and/or mediainfo ?
Did the site you downloaded them from mention what format they are ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

What you downloaded was probably rar'd or 7z'd to break file size into distributable chunks. If you don't have it, dowload 7zip and select all files and right click to extract. This should give you one file to verify the format.

If they play now, like you say, then I would image they are .avi format. You could try changing the extention to .avi and see.

You can download and install AVICodec then simply right click on the file in Windows Explorer - choose AVICodec and see what they are.

If .avi then they can easily be spliced back together using VirtualDub and it's append AVI command. There are guides available for doing that.

    Good luck.

You can tell by the video and audio specs you posted above that you have have NTSC VCD-compliant MPEG files. You should be able to rename to filename.mpg and most programs should open them then, as they are probably .DAT files at the moment.

... Or you may have "Hide extensions for known filetypes" ticked ...

If you're using Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

On your desktop, open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu, & then select Folder Options ....

In the Folder Options windows, click on the View tab.
Uncheck the box next to Hide file extensions for known file types (Note that I have checked and unchecked other boxes that may not apply to you. If you would like to make your View tab resemble mine below, go right ahead; however, it is not necessary if all that you wish to do is reveal the "dot 3" file extension.).

Click OK to close the Folder Options window.
    Close the My Computer window.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I am not familiar with the software you are trying to use to convert, which means one of two things:

    1. A new program has come out that I am not aware of that does a reasonable job

    2. A new whizz-bang all-in-crap-one software has come out, that I have not had reason to touch with a 10ft pole

    I favour option 2

Have you tried to convert with any other softwares ?

What do you want to convert to ?

You should be able to author straight to VCD using either Nero or VCDEasy.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Nero shouldn't need to encode them as they are VCD-compliant as-is - you may need to tick the "Create non standard-compliant VCD" when creating the VCD layout.

These files are already MPEG1 ...

Are you trying to make a VCD, or what ?

One thing that could possibly be happening is that the files were DAT files. Normally renaming works with them, but you may need to try renaming them back to DAT files, then using VCDGear to do a DAT -> MPG extraction. Failing that, can you open the files in virtualdub ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

The reason I ask is because both my players will play 16:9 VCD media but it will incorrectly display them in 4:3 AR - - - with no way to display them correctly in 16:9 (TIKO)

Well I guess they stretch the height to fit full screen then crop the sides.
