For days I have been triying to burn a 1 hour DVD project created in Avid Liq 7. I export the timeline as a avi file, and as a mpg file. I have use TMPGEnc to transcode it from avi to mpge. I have let the authoring programs transcode as they will. I am using DVD Lab, DVD WS2, Tsunami DVD Author Pro, and ofcoures the DVD program with Avide Liq 7 and I still can not get a DVD with menus that work correctly. I have 14 chapter placements and the DVD will not play the chapters correctly or will not play them at on my settop, which is a Toshiba SD-V390 DVD Player.
90% of them will play in the computer in PowerDVD, but not on the set top. They always play correctly in the final stage of the program where you test them. But out of the program its another story.

I am all ears again, and Thanks - H

It sounds like you are taking a scatter-gun approach to this, instead of working through the process in a methodical, calm manner. Start by reading

Question, if my DVD burner will burn multi formats ( +/-) how do I determin what format I am burning (-) or (+) ? ? I always thought that was determined by the disk (media) ! !

Is there software I can download and chedk the media type to determine if the DVD media is (+/-). My Toshiba v390 reads (+), is it possible that i have been using the (-) disks? ? If I must make copies for third parties how do I determine if this will play on their machine? ?

    Thanks - H

You are correct. The disc label will tell you whether it is +or -. You can also use a program like dvdinfopro to tell you.

And regardless of media type, they should ALL be working in your pc.

When I had a similar problem it was because the firmware on my burner was not up to date. The problem was only happening with 16x DVD's. They would play on my computer but not on my settop player. After I upgraded the firmware on my burner the 16x DVD's played fine in settop player.

Thanks for the support, I a beginners site on supermediastore.com and downloaded DVD Identifer software. All of my disk are (-) some are Taiyo Yuden (DVD-R). So I need to purchase (+) for my settop. But how do I burn for my customers, this is a 40th Class Reunion that I edited and need to give it out on DVD for some of the people. If I having this much trouble on my settop, what can I expect when i give it out to the various classmates on DVD. Is there a workaround for this? ? Seems like more people want their stuff on DVD these days.

Thanks for the great info - H

If you want the maximum compatability, check to see if your burner supports bitsetting. Bitsetting a +r dvd to -rom makes for a pretty compatabile dvd.

I purchase (+) media and they play perfect Bitsetting is limited on this unit to DVD + R DL, I am considering purchasing, Plextor PX 760A, Lite-On SHM-165H6s, or Samsung SH-S182D. As for now I'm just glad to be able to finish this project, with everyones help.

Thanks one and all - H
