  1. I was recently trying to burn a backup of a VCD only to find that it stops burning halfway complaining about reading error. I've also tried making an ISO of the VCD and the same happens, my burner and CDROM seem to be stuck at reading at some point of the VCD. I suspect maybe the CD may be physically damaged. Is there way to recover the files on the VCD (namely, the .DAT files?). I've tried manually copying the .DAT files and one of them cannot be copied for some reason.

    Try VCDGear. I've used it before to get a .dat file off a vcd that otherwise wouldn't copy. You can find it in the tools section. Hope it helps.

  3. Yes, I tried VCDGear too. It managed to read further this time but still, is stuck halfway. I suppose it's a physical error on the CD and that maybe I ened to buy a device such as the GameDoctor to correct it.
