From the tools and other places to install Lame it says to right click on the .inf file and click install.

However I dont have any .inf file only several .html files, lame.exe, lame_enc.dll and lame.css

    What am I missing?

If I install this can I use it from within any editor??

  2. From the tools section click on the "Download" link for Lame MP3 and on the Rarewares website you need to download LAME 3.97 Release ACM.It will contain the INF.

I'm not too sure that it can be used in all editors but I certainly know that VirtualDub will list it.Audio Editors like Goldwave just require you to copy lame_enc.dll to its programs folder.

Do you have "Hide Extensions for known file types" ticked in your Folder view options in Windows ? If so, check the folder for a file type "setup file". This will be the inf.

I dont know about Vegas but in VirtualDub have you clicked Audio>Full Processing Mode and looked at Compression...?

    It should list "Lame MP3"

Gunslinger - I downloaded the wrong thing, I have installed it now (there are other files at the top of the list on the linked web page which I mistook for what I needed)

laspis59 - My virtualdub doesnt have an audio section. I use virtualdubmod because I thought it included everything, is there an audio version or VD or do I need the original??

Virtualdubmod : Streams -> StreamList. Right-click and select Full Processing. Right-click again and select Compression.

Ahh thanks for that - wonder why they hid the audio as it seems so much easier in normal virtualdub with an audio tab?

Thanks to both of you all is working now!

In many ways, VDM's audio is easier to use, once you find it. Especially when you are working with multiple streams or stream replacement.
