I'm using the most recent version of ffmpegX (0.09x r2), and I'm attempting to place the reallib files in the appropriate directories so that I quit getting empty output files. However, my installation of ffmpegX doesn't create the /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX folder. Additionally, I downloaded the "reallib.zip" file from the link provided in the previous thread on "No Helix dna for MacOSX," but I don't know what to do with the files therein. It'd be nice if the instructions involving the helixdna were updated, since the good folks at helix apparently decided only to post the linux files and the source code, which my admittedly limited programming knowledge is no match for. Can someone please post an updated "walkthrough" on how to set up this most recent version of ffmpegX to encode .rm video files?

It should, because a lot of binaries (read: helper apps) are put there!
Are you logged in as Administrator when installing? Are you installing ffmpegX on you boot volume? There is little use in fiddling with RealLib when the basic install isn't right yet.

Just add the unzipped reallib folder to the directory mentioned before.

I'm following the instructions to install ffmpegX, at least I think so. I just open up the DMG, then drag the ffmpegX icon from there into Applications. Is there more to it than that?

okay, sorry, kind of new to macs. i was trying to find the folder in my User/Library/Application Support folder. buuut, now I've got the reallib folder in the /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX folder, and I'm seeing no difference in the performance of the converter. I try to open .rm video files, both by dragging into the text box next to "Open" and into the green-backgrounded slot on the GUI, and ffmpegX just freezes up. Does it sound like I'm just doing something wrong? Do I need to uninstall everything and reinstall? I also attempted to encode a .mov file to a .264 file, and ffmpegX churned out an empty file.

Did you install the separate binaries (mplayer, mencoder, mpeg2enc), as mentioned on the website? If you didn't, you would be greeted by the ffmpegX components self-installer. Download the binaries, use the Locate buttons to point the self-installer to the three binaries, enter your Admin password, and let ffmpegX copy those to the right places (as well as make them Unix executables). Then ffmpegX can use mplayer to decode (read) files, mencoder and mpeg2enc to encode (convert) files. Reallib has been made more optional (than these three) because of the hassle with the Helix website.

you might have done the same mistake that i did and think that there is only one library on your mac. there is a library under your name which is located below the desktop icon, and one located in "Macintosh HD". Click the "Macintoch HD" and look at the library there. it should have it if you did the same mistake I did. good luck. XD
