So I just upgraded to a Samsung LNS4092D, which I tend to use at 720p. I'd like to get a upconverting dvd player and was wondering if the 720p resolution will work via the component inputs or do I need to use the TV's HDMI? I currently have the video routed through a pioneer vsx d811s receiever which does component video switching, but does not have HDMI. Can I keep my set-up with an upconverting dvd player or does the upconverted image need to be displayed digitally via the HDMI? Thank you

  2. You have to use the HDMI for upcon DVD players.

Have a look at the Sony DVP-NS75H (and the DVP-NS71H... same unit, different model number)

Great upconversion performance at about half the cost of the Oppo model that most people talk about getting. Sony makes a 5 disc carousel version, too (the DVP-NC85H/B).

There are a couple of units out there that can be hacked to send the upcon signal over the analog YPbPr component video outputs, but your best video image will come from the using digital HDMI.
