ONly problem I see with this is that my copy of FF 10 is on a DVD disc...

So in order to fit all the info (4.7 GB I think) onto a disc to play the game, would you not have to burn onto a DVD-R(W)..

In any case, stuff like this really belongs on a forum dedicated to making backups of PS2 or PSX games, and not on VCDhelp.com..

  6. because the bad sectors aren't burnable on our cd burners. It would just say 'please insert playstation 2 disc' or something like that.

  8. if you want to play copied games on the ps2 so bad. why not just go ahead and pay the 25 bucks or whatever the price is(i'm sure it can't be that expensive), and play then? i saw somewhere that you can get an external mod chip that plugs into the USB port. so then your not takeing the chance of screwin up somethin takein it apart.............

  12. i am not 100% sure. i can search around for it when i get some time but i seem to recall seeing it on an emulation site somewhere. if your thinking about takeing apart your ps2, be VERY VERY careful. the wrong solder can wipe your ps2 away along with 300 bucks. i wouldn't do it, but thats me........

That site is really pretty terrible. Its too confusing and yes it does imply that you can simply patch your PS2 backups and get them to boot on the console. Try reading another PS2 backup site and it will be much clearer.

That guide is simply telling you how to patch your PS2 games. This allows you to use various boot methods to load your backups but you must have a gameshark in order to do it. Some games are more troublesome to boot and require certain techniques. That site has a decent list of all the boot methods.

But I can tell you that there is definitely no way to boot psx or PS2 games on any console without some form of modification. All original games contain a series of bad sectors which, as nfl2k2 said, are impossible to burn using any commercial cdr or dvd burner. The console checks for these sectors at boot up and if they are not present the game will not load. All booting methods including modchips, game enhancers, boot disks, and swap tricks, either bypass this bad sector check or trick it.

  14. this is something i found from him... the ?/answer is below

" Q - I hear you can't copy the PSX/PS2 Boot Sectors (hence why I need a modchip or bootcd) so how
can this work since I will be burning it ??? I can't even copy games or other commericial PSX
bootcds - how can yours boot ?

    AN -

Normally the boot sectors can't be burned, but when you alter sectors 1-15 in a binary sub_code
form they will ! This is what 'they' (mod chip companies) won't tell YOU because they want YOUR
    MONEY !

The FACT is, ALL master CDS are burned before they are PRESSED ! So even PSX games masters are
BURNED. The same RULE applies to the PSX Exchange Bootcd, how do you THINK they can make it ?
By altering the sub_code which if you're curious he sectors are written AS 000000-000015.

You CANNOT copy a PSX/PS2 boot sectors because they're 'BAD BLOCKS', but you can alter the
sectors; however it must be DONE in binary sub_code forum.

Don't ask ME how to make your ISO's bootable, it's TOO much work to do and you would lack the
knowledge but it is VERY possible to do. Just use my bootcd !

X-Box has NO protection you can boot any copy, but the are 9gig DVDRs so they must be ripped
    ontomultiple DVDRs of 4gigs.

GC is the same as PSX since the Japanese companies do this (just as Sega did it with Saturn and
DC) so the same rules apply, except that GC boot sectors are located in 000000-000030 to amke it
    harder to crack that's all.

  15. As what adam said.

All copied PSX discs (with modchip) are still self booting. The booting isn't the problem. The problem is that the hardware checks for the bad sectors FIRST. If it doesn't detect them, the the player won't go any further.

This is the part where you need the modchip, or gameshark, etc.

If I remember correctly, the bad sectors have zeroed out ECC and EDC which is impossible to burn on a commercial burner. Although you can extract it, I'm pretty sure that most burners will "correct" the ECC/EDC when burning the disc.

As for master CDs being "burnt", this may be true but game developers have access to specialised equipment.
