  1. Hello,

I downloaded wmp 11 from MSN's website, and I do have internet connection (wireless) but when I go to click on 'Browse ALL Online Stores' I get 'This Page Cannot be Displayed'. Can anyone help?

I have a Toshiba Satellite Due Core processor Notebook, if that matters.

    Thanks

why would you use WMP11 over earlier version? There is not one improvement for user, all "improvements" are Digital Restrictions Management related

If you haven't already, try the support page on the microsoft.com web site for a possible answer.

As far as value add, WMP11 rips to WAV while WMP10 does not. That eliminates a step for me. And I believe WMP11 will be utliizing WMA Pro which is quite better than plain old vanilla WMA.

OK, I never thought i'd live the day when microsoft will 'discover' existence of plain old WAVE, but hey - live'n'learn...
(as for wma-pro it just oh-so-windows-media-player-only-related that i honestly even didnt had a clue of its existence no doubt it must be better than 'standard' wma, since it would be very hard to find worse audio format...)

    DereX888,

The reason I value WAV is that I recently found out (live and learn) that when you rip to WAV most software will bypass the sound card and do a pure digital audio extraction which ensures more than any other method that your rips are EXACT copies of the original. When you rip to WMA or MP3 or whatever, the software converts the signal to analog FIRST converting back to digital in the format of your choice. The problem with this method is that, depending on your system and what processes are running in the background, you can pickup noise (pops and clicks) as well as lose some bits.

From what I understand you really want to rip to WAV and then once the audio is on your harddrive, convert to WMA or MP3 or whatever. This greatly REDUCES (but does NOT entirely eliminate) the likelihood of picking up noise or losing bits along the way.

WMP10 rips to WMA or MP3 directly. Audiograbber, on the other hand, extracts to WAV and only then converts to MP3 using LAME with one button click. Hopefully, WMP11 will operate this way as well.

you misunderstood my post i guess... yes, WAV is the king; perhaps you should send your comment to microsoft me thinks? It took them only 11 versions of WMP to finally grasp this concept
