Hi,
I am trying to make a 1.6GB AVI to a smaller size AVI. I have this program that works well on converting AVI to mpeg4 for iPod (3GP converter). But it seems like that program doesn't do well on converting big size AVI (above 1 GB) into mpeg4 format. So my 1.6 GB AVI that runs 100 minutes is not completely converted. The software said that the task is completed 100%, but the output only runs 63 minutes long. I tried the program for like 4 times, all about the same results!! I tried the program with other normal size (about 700MB) AVI, things were all fine.... So I concluded that it's just because of the too-big-AVI-file. I tried to get free software that can do this, but things didn't go as I planned after trying about 3 softwares. So anybody have suggestions on what free software can make my AVI smaller with as close as lossless quality as possible? or step by step instructions?
Thanks in advance!

You should mention which apps you've tried.
Di you look at Avirecomp?
Are saving out through VirtualDubMod? -
I tried "any video converter", avi to mpeg converter (but i'm not sure how it deals with AVI to AVI, instead of just AVI to mpeg, and the trial only gives 30 minutes), DMC (put watermark and only 1 minute test-run), plus I downloaded a codec MSU something, but not sure what I should use it on..
Haven't tried AVI recomp, but I just finished downloading it and in the process of installing it. I was thinking about VirtualDub too, but I forgot where I put CD containing that software, I tried to re-download it but my IE got error, so I just skipped that... lol
edit: just finished installing AVI recomp, but have no clue how to use it, it doesn't have main window.... help?
edit2: I reinstalled the software and now I can get to the main window.. I'm trying the software now!
edit3: I tried it literally a dozen time, and it said "not a valid AVI file", I don't know what's wrong with the file... I think I'll just re-convert the original file to AVI, then try it again on AVIrecomp later. Do you know why it said "not a valid AVI file" though? And do you know why I can't preview it in the "Resizing" menu? It said that it can't find the player to do it. Am I missing something? -

Assuming it can open your AVi, then just "File/Save as" and choose your codec and compression. -
been long time, too busy....
but thanks for the advices.. i'll try that VBmod!
anyway, i did use the original PAL video in avirecomp, it worked.... but when i changed it to ntsc first, it didn't work.. and now my zoomplayer doesn't wanna open anything too, so yea, i'm sure it's the codec...... i guess i'll just reformat my comp, too long since last time, full of crap at the moment...
thx.
