If you want it in wav, use EO Video. Set 'wav' template and original sample rate (get the value from MediaInfo utility), uncheck 'enhanced' output and use 'linear instead'. RealAlternative (or RealPlayer) should be installed on your PC. Sometimes audio stream is in AAC, then you need anything for its playback installed and EO will find it.

simplest solution is to add 2 seconds of silence to the start of the audio

Audacity is a free, pretty well featured audio editor. It can do this for you.

Usually you have to do it in a sound editor like SoundForge, GoldWave, CoolEdit or some free one. E.g. in SoundForge you can 'insert silence' in the beginning of the open audio file (it always opens as wav) and select its length when asked. Save the file, then encode to what you need.

You could try reencoding with Easy Real Media Producer
    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=82042
which has a setting for audio delay and then use RMMuxer to mix original video and new audio.
ERMP is the only place where i have seen audio delay setting for real media files.

Is your target video format also RM?
Then you can try to first adjust the length of your video in RMEditor (free tool by Real Networks for cutting files, part of RealProducer Basic), demux the video stream and use it with the audio stream extracted from the other file. There are some RM files though RMEditor refuses to open.
Another way is to decode your audio to wav (EO Video free trial), then adjust delay in a sound editor, encode to RealAudio and mux with video.

Should be a way to set a delay when muxing. Otherwise you could mux to mkv.

Open audacity. Click on Project -> Import Audio. Select your file and let it load. Line up the cursor at the 2 second mark Click on Project->Align and Move Cursor->Align with cursor. Your audio will shift in 2 second, effectively adding a 2 second delay.

You need to export the audio as a wav file (file->Export). Try reading the help file or opening some of the menus. You really can't hurt anything by trying.

You can't. You can get a wav or ogg format file (and if you have LAME installed, mp3). You have to then mux it back in using something that is RM aware. I haven't worked with rm files in a long, long time as they have always seemed a) low quality, and b) needing an extremely intrusive player.

Personally, I would be re-encoding the whole thing to a better format.

    NO: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/329174.html

True sound editors don't import Real Audio.

Why not just remux to mkv via mmg/mkvmerge and set the delay for the audio stream there? If anything it should give you even smaller output due to lower overhead.
